She Doesn’t Like the Ring – What Do I Do?

What if she says no and walks away? What if you have popped the question a little too early in your relationship? What if she loves you with all her heart but her heart drops as soon as she sees the ring? If you are in a situation where your special someone did not like the ring that you picked out for her take a moment and breathe. This isn’t the end of the world. She still loves you and will gladly get married to you! It’s just the jewelry that is the problem and you can definitely fix that in no time. Here is how you can handle the situation when your partner is not thrilled about the ring.

Treat the Matter with Sensitivity
You do not want to lash out and start the blaming game. This is no one’s fault really – You picked out a piece of jewelry for her to wear and she did not like how it looked. It’s quite uncomplicated and fixable. She was probably the most anxious to even bring it up in fear of accidentally hurting your feelings. No matter what you choose to do moving ahead with the engagement ring, make sure you communicate and make each other the first priority.

Bring Her Along
To be honest, the most practical solution is always making a decision and investment like this together as a couple. Of course it is traditional and romantic to surprise your partner with an engagement ring but oftentimes it is not the most rational option – So much can go wrong! This time around bring her with you to choose the new engagement ring. It will get so much easier when she can pick out the exact type of ring she would want to wear forever.

If you still want to maintain the element of surprise, ask her to pick out 4-5 rings just so you can get an idea of what she likes. Or ask her questions about the materials that she prefers. Does she like rose gold more than yellow gold or colored gemstones like sapphire and ruby more than diamonds? This way you can make a better decision.

Discuss the Size
Make sure to discuss beforehand if size is the main issue in the engagement ring that you bought. These questions involving money are uncomfortable to discuss but it is necessary to talk about now that you are planning to get married. See if there is a way to size up your diamond by balancing the other aspects of your ring or talk thoroughly about why investing in a bigger diamond won’t be a good idea for the both of you right now.

Check for Return Policies
Make sure to ask the jewelry store you bought the ring from for their return policies. Most jewelry stores have easy return policies but there are some limitations that you need to be aware of. Generally if your merchandise is in its original condition it can be returned within 60 or 90 days. Remember to hold onto your sales receipts and certification.

Again – Remember that this isn’t the end of the world! You still have each other!
